Exergaming - when gaming meets health

We bring gaming and health together!

There is a clear trend that the physical inactivity of the German population is steadily increasing. Statistics from the WHO clearly show that a large proportion of people in Germany are too lazy (Fig. 1). The recommended level of physical activity (adults at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week and adolescents 60 minutes) is hardly achieved.

At the same time, video games have become increasingly popular in recent years. This can be shown by statistics from Statista (Fig. 2). German sales in the esports market amounted to 104 million euros in 2021. Compared to the previous year, this is a significant increase. A further increase is expected in the coming years. In addition, there is a distribution of gamers across a wide age range (Fig. 3). 18% of people who occasionally or regularly play digital games are between 30 and 39 years old. The increasing use of video games will in turn increase physical inactivity among all age groups, as less and less exercise is incorporated into leisure time.

To counteract this worrying trend, it is important to find innovative ways to integrate physical activity and health into everyday life.

One promising way to do this is through exercise games with health objectives, so-called exergames. You become an active participant and can control the games with your own body.

With our developed exergames we want to create an innovative, fun and active experience that improves both physical fitness and cognitive skills. Quick decisions and reflexes stimulate brain power and the different difficulty levels and challenges motivate and challenge the game player. In addition, coordination and balance can be improved, which is beneficial for overall health and fitness.

Our games are easy to learn and can be played at any time, so you can decide when and where to play. Whether you are young or old, active or less active, our games will be designed to be accessible and engaging for everyone. We want to reach a wide variety of audiences and help them achieve their health goals in a fun way. Our games can especially animate people who have a hard time motivating themselves.

Unlike other providers, our team develops exergames so that they work with 3D sensors and can be played with any integrated computer- laptop camera. This means that our game works on a wider range of devices, making it accessible without additional hardware.

Our goal is to contribute to a healthier lifestyle through the playful and motivating character of our exergames and to integrate more exercise into everyday life in order to counteract the rising trend of lack of exercise.
